Belly Dancing Burn
If you are the type of person who counts down the seconds to when your 30 minute elliptical torture ends, or calculates how many more strides you need to run before you can collapse on your couch, then perhaps you might want to spice things up a bit and head over to Hannan’s Belly Dancing studio. They not only provide a wicked calorie burning session (approx. 300 cal/hr!), but for some fun and challenging booty-shaking!
Lindsay Tsotros, a teacher at Hannan’s, exclaims the difference she saw in her body when she first started belly-dancing twice a week. “I had a HUGE weight loss (with a proper diet) and saw a lot of muscle definition happening in my abs and arms. My calves and thighs got smaller and I had A LOT more endurance”. She goes on to explain how beneficial belly-dancing is to a woman’s body. With most routine exercises, we tend to put pressure on
parts of our body that perhaps alters or distorts our skeleton, like ballet or running. Belly dancing concentrates itself on movements that come naturally to the female form, “working with the body, instead of against it”. Not to mention the visual appeal of the dance, accentuating various parts of the woman’s body with isolated bum-shimmying and hip-rolling; think classy version of the club style bump-and-grind.
And for you men out there, Hannan’s is not gender-specific! If you’ve got the urge to get your shimmy on, the instructors will gladly masculate some of the more feminine movements so that it works with the male body as well.
Hannan’s has two locations for your hip-hustlin’ convenience! With one at Danforth and Broadview (211 Danforth Ave.) and one at Yonge and Eglington (2281 Yonge St., Suite 204).
