The sole shouldn’t be rigid and flat, but rather squishy, especially at the heel and ball of the foot. It should be shaped to your arch, rather than laying as flat as a pancake.

As for heels, chunky or wedged platforms are much more comfortable than stilettos. Getting the correct width is important too.
