Find The Prom Dress of Your Dreams!

For those of you in your last or second-last year of high school, the next major event in your life is probably prom. What’s your first priority? Your date? Nope. The limo? Of course not. No, as a proper fashionista, you’ll be thinking of that absolutely stunning dress you’ll wear! If you haven’t bought your dress (or even if you have!), here are a bunch of things to keep in mind.

Fit, fit, and fit! The last thing you want is a dress that doesn’t fit. If you’re set on a strapless dress, make sure it’ll stay up! When you’re trying it on, don’t just stand and look at yourself in the mirror. Swish, turn, and even jump around a bit. If it’s loose, get it tailored or choose another size. If you can’t walk in it without it shifting, there’s no way it’ll survive hours of dancing! Secondly, if you’ve gained or lost weight recently, make sure you still fit your dress. Depending on where you lose it, a little weight can make a lot of difference.

Go for timeless. Decades later, you’ll look back on your prom photos. You might even show them to your children. Don’t embarrass yourself by choosing a dress inspired by the style of Nicki Minaj or Lady Gaga’s meat dress if you think you’ll regret it later (and you probably will).

Still, express yourself. Not everyone wants to look like a princess. If you prefer a short dress or pants to a floor-length ball gown, don’t be afraid to wear it. For a lot of people, prom sticks out as a distinctive memory from high school. You certainly don’t want that memory to be unrepresentative of your high school self. Furthermore, if you feel awkward, you’re not going to have a good night.

Prom should be a night of enjoyment, not one where you’re in a constant state of worry over your attire. If you make sure your dress is absolutely perfect beforehand, you’ll be free to have the time of your life once the actual day comes!
