Summer Tech Gadgets

Are you looking to spend money you’ve been saving for a new gadget? Or maybe you’re away on vacation, or perhaps to the beach with your friends and want to bring along some form of entertainment. With new devices coming out every day (or so it seems), it’s hard to keep up with the latest and greatest. Below are a few tech gadgets now trending from the Marilyn Denis Show’s tech expert Nicholas Montgomery.

iPhone (199.99). Popular apps include Instagram, Angry Birds, Draw Something and Siri. It’s a nifty all-in-one gadget that can keep you entertained and connected with friends and family.

New iPad (from $519). The retina display means it has super sharp pixels that produce very clear images. It has a five mega-pixel camera and the LTD feature, which gives you Internet access anywhere so you can check your email even at the beach. You’d buy the chip and pay monthly.

Soulra XL Solar Speaker ($249.95). This is your source for music if you want to go retro with the boom box feel. It’s solar-powered, so it’s perfect for the beach and you don’t have to worry about the battery dying (just make sure there won’t be too much cloud coverage). This speaker’s a bit hefty, but the shoulder strap makes it easier to carry.

Olympus Tough TG-320 ($299). This camera might as well be called the “Supercamera.” It’s waterproof, shockproof and freeze proof up to -10 degrees. It has 12 mega-pixels and shoots 3D. There is also a waterproof and floatable case for it, so you don’t have to worry about it sinking to the bottom of the ocean. So go ahead and have fun taking great summer pictures without worrying about your camera getting damaged by water (just remember it’s only unsinkable when it’s in its case).

Montgomery suggest that if you just got the iPad 2, don’t invest in the new one. However, now is the best time to get the Tablet. Before you purchase something, compare features and see if the newer gadget is going to give you something you don’t already have, or if it’s worth the extra money.
