My Nails Are Banging: Spring 2012 Trends

Perfumed polish? It’s one of those things that sound wacky until you try it. Dior’s new Garden Party set gives you the urge to play through the woods while sniffing your nails. It is made of two colors/scents, a rich and sultry lilac color right on trend for spring, and a pale green that resembles that of yachting in the Mediterranean. On top of the beauty of the shade, you get wonderful aroma. You can get them for $23 at dior.com. They’re limited edition so get them while you can.

If you’re budget-conscious, you can get Revlon’s Scented Perfume Nail Enamel in Mad About Mango for $4.79 at drugstore.com. Nail colors this spring include tangerine and candy-colored hues inspired by the Prada and Louis Vuitton runways. Pair them with colored denim and a bold floral top for a standout effect. Nail art trends are still in- you can even try five different shades of the same color family by starting with the darkest shade on your thumb. You can even go natural this spring with pastels and nude nails. Fake nails are in, especially with patterns.

Nude Nails are a hit of this season and have been around for several seasons. They have been spotted at several fashion shows including Derek Lam, Giorgio Armani, and 3.1 Phillip Lim. The best way to pull off the nude nail trend is to look for the nail polish that is closest to your skin tone but remember to consider the undertones.

Bright Colors can be worn in red, pink, green, fuchsia, and orange. You can match them with your lipstick or clothes to become an eye catchy accent in a neutral-based look.

Patterns & Nail Art include various patterns, stripes and checkers. Clear tip nails with white lace pattern at Joy Cioci look particularly unusual. Ombre and pierced nails have been seen on runways.

The Metallic & Glitter trend includes metallic polishes, minx nails, and even the option of rhinestones. Make this trend your own with the variety of styles. There were also moon, and navy instead of black are also in. With so much to choose from, you can get very creative this spring. Which trend will you choose this season?

Stay Fit: Your Running Shoes Options

Fergie made a point in her tune Fergalicious, “I be up in the gym, just working on my fitness.”  A toned body is a big part of your overall appearance and of course your health. The right pair of running shoes can be the key to a great work out. They’re not just for long distance runners. You need enough support and stability to keep your feet in correct alignment while your body is in motion. Here are three options you can try:

The Asics GT-2160 is lighter and than most Asics. There is a closer fit and narrower toe box to avert foot movement, especially in the forefoot area. This helps prevent blisters, chaffing and pain while running. This shoe weights 9.6oz and lightens the legs when the body is tired and heavy. It wraps the foot in soft lining, which creates a snug fit without pressure points. This Asics GT-2160 has soft Gel and foam midsole and deep grooves in the outsole which provides a smooth feel through toe-off. They usually cost less than $100.

The Adidas Supernova Adapt has a memory foam in the heel  which assists with ankle stability and the forefoot overlays adds stability. There is also a torsion control system which helps to control over-pronation and a cushioning system in the region of the toes and forefoot. Those are some of the classic and typical features we’ve come to expect from Adidas.

Finally, there’s the Nike Air Pegasus+ 27. The retail price is approximately $90. It is recommended that you buy a slightly bigger size as it is a small model. It is alsolight at 9.1 oz. The entire foot is protected with Zoom Air cushioning in the heel and deeper flex grooves, which makes for a more flexible forefoot and the front area has  a no-sew area to reduce any irritation. The decoupled crash pad allows heel impact to be isolated from the rest of the shoe to promote a natural landing.

Once you have chosen your running shoes, remember to run slowly the first few time you use them. You can expect a small blister and some adjustment from old running shoes, but keep pushing ahead. Be sure to go slowly at first to prevent injuries and make sure to keep them clean and to eliminate odors. Stay active, stay motivated- it’ll bring out the best you can be.
